New Law Governing Video Remote Interpreting!October 11, 2016
Prior to Section 1557 rule, the new regulation that we covered in [link to Bruce’s blog], the only laws that existed with regard to the use of video remote interpreting (VRI) used to provide language access, were the federal regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA regulations addressed the specific needs of ASL interpreters and Deaf clients by specifying in great detail such things as the size and clarity of the video screen and image. Section 1557 clarifies the intent of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in regard to VRI use for spoken language access and spoken language interpreters.
